Construction site and roadworks in the vicinity of the institute!
Current information on directions and the parking situation:

Direct access to the ZBT site via Carl-Benz-Strasse is possible again. However, not all roads in the neighbourhood are still passable as usual. Please follow our current directions!

Current parking situation: We only have a limited number of parking spaces on our premises. Parking spaces around the institute are also scarce due to construction work. Please allow some time for finding a parking space and a possible short walk. Or use public transport to get to us. ZBT is easy to reach by public transport.

Branch office
ZBT has recently opened a branch office at the "Tectrum" technoligy centre, not far from its headquarters. You will find the directions to the Tectrum below after the directions to ZBT's headquarters or here:

Public transport

By Train:

From "Duisburg Hauptbahnhof" (main station) take the bus lines 933 or 926 in the direction of "Universität Duisburg" until terminal stop "Uni-Nord". ZBT is right there. (approx. 10-15 min)
Alternative: Use tram line 901 (underground) in the direction of "Mülheim". Get off at "Zoo/Uni". Follow signs to university campus area "L". Walking distance to ZBT is about 500m/550yd. (approx. 5 min + walking time)

By Plane:

At Düsseldorf International (DUS) take the SkyTrain from the terminal to the train station. Take a train to "Duisburg Hauptbahnhof" (main station). Then follow directions above.
Or take a Taxi to ZBT. (approx. 25 min, 60 Euro, as of Jul 2024)

From Frankfurt International Airport (FRA) take the express train (ICE) to "Duisburg Hauptbahnhof" (main station). (approx. 1:15 - 2 hrs) Then follow directions above.

By Taxi:

If the taxi driver does not know ZBT direct him to university/main parking/final bus stop or to the address "Carl-Benz-Strasse 201, Duisburg".

Attention! The traffic routing on Carl-Benz-Straße is currently changed due to construction work. Here are the current directions:

  • From the A40 and A3 motorways, take the Duisburg-Kaiserberg exit at the Kaiserberg junction.
  • Turn left at the traffic lights onto Carl-Benz-Straße.
  • Keep right at the fork towards ‘Zentrum’, then turn right onto Mülheimer Straße.
  • Turn left onto Lotharstraße, then turn left onto Forsthausweg.
  • Follow the road onto Carl-Benz-Straße.
  • Turn left after the multi-storey car park on the left-hand side.
  • Ignore the ‘No entry’ signs. The additional sign ‘Zufahrt ZBT frei’ allows you to continue.
  • On the right-hand side you will first see the visitors' entrance and then the delivery entrance.

Parking spaces at the ZBT are limited. If you cannot find a parking space on the ZBT site, you can drive across the Fraunhofer-inHaus-Zentrum site to Forsthausweg. Turn left there and in the following left-hand bend turn diagonally right to reach the free university car parks.

Another note: The exit via Carl-Benz-Strasse is currently only possible in in the northerly direction to Mülheimer Strasse/motorway. If you want to drive south/Lotharstraße, drive via the grounds of the Fraunhofer-inHaus Centre to Forsthausweg.

By public transport

From Duisburg main station:

  • take tram line 901 direction Mülheim/Ruhr
  • get off at the first stop ‘Lutherplatz’
  • turn left next to the building with the curved glass facade (‘Haus der Wirtschaftsförderung’) into Manteuffelstrasse
  • then turn right into Bismarckstrasse
  • Tectrum is on the left-hand side
By car

Note: When using a navigation device, please enter the postcode (47057) or the name of the district (Neudorf) together with the address, as otherwise there is a risk of being directed to another district of Duisburg.

From the north and south (A3 motorway) from the directions Arnheim (NL)/Oberhausen/Hannover/Cologne/Frankfurt and
from the east (A40 motorway) from the direction of Essen/Bochum/Dortmund:

  • Take exit 14 ‘Duisburg Kaiserberg’ at the Duisburg-Kaiserberg motorway junction
  • turn left onto Carl-Benz-Strasse
  • at the fork, turn diagonally right towards Duisburg-Zentrum and turn right onto Mülheimer Strasse
  • after approx. 2 km turn left onto Bismarckstrasse


From the north (A59 motorway) from Dinslaken:

  • Take the Duisburg-Duissern exit
  • turn left onto Kardinal-Galen-Strasse
  • at the roundabout, turn straight onto Hansastrasse
  • at the end turn left onto Mülheimer Strasse
  • turn right onto Bismarckstrasse


From the south (A59 motorway) from Düsseldorf:

  • Take the Duisburg-Duissern exit
  • turn right onto Saarstrasse
  • immediately turn left onto Landfermannstrasse, which becomes Mülheimer Strasse after the tunnel
  • turn right onto Bismarckstrasse


From the west (A40 motorway) from Moers/Venlo:

  • At the Duisburg motorway junction, change to the A59 towards Düsseldorf/Duisburg-Süd
  • take the first exit Duisburg-Duissern
  • turn left onto Kardinal-Galen-Strasse
  • at the roundabout go straight on Hansastrasse
  • at the end turn left onto Mülheimer Strasse
  • turn right onto Bismarckstrasse


Parking: The Tectrum has numerous car parking spaces. The car park can be reached via Bismarckstrasse.
