Compression systems and stack mechanics

The defined compression of the fuel cell stack is necessary to ensure a homogeneous force distribution in the active area in order to achieve low contact resistances and to reliably seal the cell assembly.

Length changes of the fuel cell stack due to pressure and temperature changes during operation and due to component tolerances in the assembly must be reliably compensated.

The ZBT develops assembly-optimized compression systems, improves contact pressure distributions within the framework of FEM simulations and researches alternative manufacturing processes such as the bonding of MEA and bipolar plates for the construction of extremely lightweight fuel cell stacks.
