Once again this year, the ZBT was represented at the Duisburg Dragon Boat Regattas by its dragon boat team, “Die Brennstoffzellen,” and celebrated two sporting victories. At both the regatta on Toeppersee and the traditional Inner Harbor Regatta, the team impressed with their dedication, team spirit, and strong performances.
Successful Start to the Season at Toeppersee
The event kicked off with the dragon boat regatta on Lake Toepper. After two preliminary heats and two final heats, each 250 meters long, the team steadily improved and achieved an outstanding second-place finish in the Mixed Team Fun Cup. In addition to the athletic competition, the event provided an opportunity for networking and shared experiences in a relaxed atmosphere.
Victory in the B Final of the Inner Harbor Regatta
Shortly thereafter, the team competed in the Inner Harbor Regatta in Duisburg. The ZBT has been represented there with its own team for more than 20 years and is thus one of the event’s regular participants. In the Mixed 12-Person Fun Cup, the team qualified for the final after three 250-meter heats, posting the fastest time in the B final. In the subsequent 500-meter final with a turn, “Die Brennstoffzellen”mobilised all their strength once again and secured first place in the B final. With their time, they also finished ahead of the two slowest teams in the A final.
A Regatta of Superlatives
The Inner Harbor Regatta is one of the largest dragon boat events in the world and has been listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s largest dragon boat regatta since 2005. While school teams compete on the first day of the event, the second day features the Fun Cup for companies and institutions from the region. The event concludes with the club team competitions.
