Full of energy: ‘Fuel Cells’ successful at the Dragon Boat Fun Regatta

The ZBT dragon boat team shone at the regatta in Duisburg’s inner harbour, securing a strong 8th place among more than 30 teams. This year’s Fun Cup once again lived up to its name.

At the 23rd Duisburg Inner Harbour Regatta, the dragon boat team from the ZBT – Centre for Fuel Cell Technology – once again shone with a solid performance. With team spirit bolstered by a shared breakfast at the team camp and bodies fuelled by a steady supply of isotonic drinks, the ‘Fuel Cells’ achieved a remarkable eighth place out of more than 30 teams in the Fun Cup. We think that’s more than impressive and are rather proud. And apart from that, the ‘Fun’ in Fun Cup really came into its own, as everyone had a great time.

The ZBT team is taking part in the regatta in the Duisburg Food Bank’s boat. Three other boats can be seen in the background.

The ZBT boat was manned by a colourful mix of long-serving and new staff members, experienced paddlers and dragon boat novices – supported and trained by the Wanheimer Canoe Guild. The two intensive training sessions with head coach Marion Bröckels on Duisburg’s Masurensee paid off on race day.

Because a race day like this is no walk in the park: the three 250-metre heats demanded concentration, technique and maximum effort. And the 500-metre final, with a flying start and a turn, then demanded everything from the athletes once again. Fortunately, the weather played along: pleasant temperatures and a steady tailwind provided ideal conditions for the race.

Many thanks to the ZBT crew for your fantastic, extra-ordinary efforts! And thanks to the Canoe Guild for your support before and during the regatta!

The winner's certificate and a trophy.
