15th Workshop “Approval – Certification – Standardisation in the field of fuel cells and hydrogen”

Standardisation drives innovation: The market ramp-up of hydrogen technologies can only be successful if the path is paved by appropriate standardisation work. The workshop “Approval – Certification – Standardisation for Fuel Cells and Hydrogen” provides insights into pre-normative research and current developments and projects and offers an opportunity for exchange.

Regulatory issues, standardization and standards often seem abstract – yet they are a key driver of innovation and market access, especially in the field of hydrogen technologies. The workshop “Approval – Certification – Standardisation for Fuel Cells and Hydrogen” on 24 and 25 of February 2026 in Oldenburg brought together experts from research, industry and politics to provide insights into the legal framework, pre-normative research and application examples.

The 15th ZZN workshop offers an interactive platform for the exchange of experiences and information:

  • Pre-normative research at national and European level
  • Legal framework conditions for and from standardization
  • Current developments in the area of Regulations, Codes and Standards (RCS)
  • Insights into current projects on their way from preliminary work to standardization

The workshop is aimed at a wide range of professionals who wish to expand their knowledge, including:

  • End users
  • System operators
  • Employees in research institutions
  • Hydrogen system integrator:inside
  • Members of certification bodies and standardization committees

Health & Safety Day 2025

The all-day “Health & Safety Day” at the ZBT – The Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Center focused on health and safety in the workplace. All employees were invited to engage interactively, practically and informatively with topics relating to stress, time management, ergonomics and safety.

Keynote speech & focus on “Time and stress management”

The event kicked off with an interactive keynote speech by health and stress management trainer Andrea Lawlor which focused on participants’ own time management: participants were able to recognize how they can set clear priorities, expose their inner drivers and allow themselves to take breaks without feeling guilty. The lecture thus formed the central theme of the day: creating your own space for action and creativity.

This was also the focus of the following offers:

Consultation hour on time management – especially for department and group managers. There was the opportunity for a short individual coaching session.

From the Techniker Krankenkasse health checks offered by Techniker Krankenkasse:

  • Stress type determination
  • Cardio stress test (via heart rate variability)
  • Pupillography to detect daytime sleepiness and reduced concentration.

Practical workshops for more safety

Two 45-minute time slots with practical workshops were held in parallel to the health offerings – so that all participants could attend two events each. There was a choice:

  • Practical fire extinguishing exercise carried out by the company Notfallprävention GmbH
  • First aid in the lab with ZBT scientist Simon Dondrup
  • Laboratory safety at the ZBT with our Head of Safety Dr. Alexander Vogt
  • Ergonomics in the office – preventing long-term illnesses with company doctor Dr. Peter Stommel

These practical formats offered employees the opportunity to think through and try out safety and health issues directly in the working environment.

Conclusion and thanks

Many employees took the opportunity to take advantage of the day’s offerings – from health measurements to workshops and individual coaching. In view of the goal of raising awareness of personal health and safety in the working environment, the day can be considered a complete success. The ZBT would like to thank Techniker Krankenkasse for its support and all those involved and taking part for their commitment.
