Electrolysis test bench inspected by TÜV and put into operation

ZBT has successfully validated a new 40 kW test rig for pressurized PEM water electrolysis.

The associated pressure vessel system was inspected by TÜV and validated for pressurized operation. The inspection was based on the requirements of the Pressure Equipment Directive and TRBS 1201, Part 2.

Testing capabilities available for customers and project partners

The test bench enables long-term testing of PEM electrolysis stacks for up to 5,000 operating hours. Stacks with a power output of up to 40 kilowatts at a maximum of 2,000 amperes and 20 volt can be tested. Operating conditions of up to 90 degrees Celsius and 36 bar allow for realistic testing under demanding pressure and temperature conditions.

The facility is now available for testing assignments as well as for research and development projects. Initial tests for customers and project partners are already underway. Among other things, the facility can be used to investigate the performance, efficiency, aging, degradation, and long-term stability of PEM electrolysis stacks and their components.

This includes performance and stress analyses, accelerated aging tests (AST), and service life studies under realistic operating conditions.
