ZBT at the ICE2025 electrolysis conference in Freiburg

For five days, Freiburg im Breisgau was the international centre of the electrolysis world. The 5th International Conference on Electrolysis provided a platform for inspiring lectures, workshops and excursions, as well as exciting discussions on the latest innovations and applications. More than 300 participants from 30 countries and over 200 presentations testify to the high level of interest and interdisciplinary exchange at the event.

Pascal Sous, Lukas Feierabend, Bastian Kaufmann and Miriam Hesse (pictured from left to right) were on site for ZBT to present the institute’s research work. In addition to numerous new ideas, they were also able to enjoy the Freiburg sunshine and local beer.

  • Lukas Feierabend gave a presentation entitled Data-driven design of Advanced AST Protocols, in which he presented new approaches to data-driven degradation prediction.
  • Bastian Kaufmann presented his research on the ‘Integrierten Referenzelektrode für die AEM-WE MEA-Charakterisierung’, an innovative approach to improving AEM electrolysis technology, on a poster.

Both contributions illustrate how ZBT contributes to the further development of electrolysis with innovative and pragmatic solutions, while also benefiting from an intensive exchange with science and industry. It was also a valuable opportunity to network with electrolysis experts from national and international universities, research centres and companies. The exchange with partners from our region, such as the MAT4HY.NRW cooperation platform (Materials for Future Hydrogen Technologies), was also particularly gratifying.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to our funding partners and the organisers of ICE2025, Tom Smolinka and Carolin Klose, for the excellent execution of the event.

We are already looking forward to ICE2027 in Bahia!
