The core challenges hindering the market penetration of fuel cells are their service life and high costs over their entire life cycle. These are currently determined largely by manufacturing costs and are attributable to expensive manufacturing technologies that are not designed for mass production.
The FCPP (Fuel Cell Performance Production) project aims to develop and manufacture a fuel cell stack using large-scale, cost-effective production technology that offers high performance and robustness as well as marketable efficiency at lower costs than current products on the market. To this end, a cost-effective and resource-efficient inline coating process is being developed and validated.
In parallel, ZBT is working with WätaS to research a particularly robust stack design for high durability requirements with outputs of > 120 kW for commercial vehicle applications. To this end, ZBT is focusing on the following research topics:
