Overview of our participation in standardisation

ZBT actively contributes its technical and scientific expertise to numerous standardisation committees. The focus is on topics such as hydrogen quality, refuelling interfaces, communication protocols and requirements for H2 infrastructure. Participation takes place both at international level (ISO) and in the national DIN context.

ISO TC 197 – Hydrogen Technologies

ZBT is represented in the following working groups of the ISO TC 197 technical committee, which is dedicated to the standardisation of hydrogen technologies:

  • WG 5: Gaseous hydrogen land vehicle refuelling connection devices
→ Standardisation of interfaces for refuelling gaseous hydrogen vehicles

  • WG 24: Protocol Development
→ Development of standardised communication protocols

  • WG 27: Hydrogen Quality
    → Requirements for hydrogen purity

  • WG 28: Hydrogen Quality Control
→ Methods for controlling hydrogen quality

  • WG 33: Sampling
→ Sampling techniques for hydrogen at filling stations

  • WG 38: Communications between the vehicle and dispenser control systems
    → Vehicle-filling station communication

  • WG 39: Interface between gaseous hydrogen trailer and hydrogen fuelling station
→ Interfaces for trailers and stationary refuelling systems

DIN – Standards Committee for Gas Technology (DIN NA Gas)

ZBT is also active in the German standardisation environment, particularly in the field of hydrogen technologies. Our involvement includes:

  • NAGas Special Committee ‘Hydrogen Technologies’
→ Coordination and strategic orientation in the German context
    (Christian Spitta is deputy head)

  • NA032-03-06: H2 production
→ Standardisation of processes and systems for hydrogen production

  • NA032-03-07: Gas supply for natural gas-powered vehicles
→ Standards for infrastructure and safety in the automotive sector

  • NA032-03-09: Fuel properties
→ Requirements for the quality of gaseous fuels
