Hydrogen leak detection: H2 - LeakDect

The aim of the H2LeakDect project, which is funded by the BMVI and coordinated by NOW, is to develop a novel testing method for detecting and locating leaks in hydrogen components and systems.

Within the framework of the project, an innovative, optical test procedure for the automated detection and location of hydrogen leaks or monitoring of the leak tightness of systems and components is to be developed. The measuring method will be validated in comparison with experiments and numerical simulations. The aim here is to reproduce quantifiable measurement and local location of leaks in different set-ups. In the laboratory, the measurement procedure is tested on a standard and practical applications. After successful qualification in the laboratory, the measurement procedure will be further tested in relevant test environments in real application scenarios. The objective is to develop a test procedure that corresponds to a TRL of 5 to 6 and to introduce the procedure into standardisation.

The project was started in December 2020 and has a duration of 2 years. The project manager is Joachim Jungsbluth.
