Duisburg's local transport becomes more sustainable – new hydrogen buses refuel at ZBT

Duisburg's first fuel cell buses have arrived. They are refuelling at ZBT's hydrogen test filling station for training purposes. They will soon make Duisburg's local transport even cleaner.

The first fuel cell buses of the Duisburg public transport company are refuelled at the ZBT test refuelling station for training purposes.

As the DVG hydrogen refuelling station is not yet ready - completely on schedule, by the way - the ZBT steps in and refuels the buses.

Refuelling attendant for a day: Lord Mayor Sören Link took over a pressurised refuelling.

The hydrogen test station at our hydrogen testfield recently had the chance to step on the gas: we had the great pleasure of refuelling the first eleven hydrogen fuel cell electric buses of the Duisburg Public Transport Company (DVG) for training purposes. Duisburg’s Mayor Sören Link and DVG Board Member Andreas Gutschek did not miss the opportunity to witness the process in person, following the live refuelling at the test station.

Our hydrogen testfield team was visibly enthusiastic about supporting DVG with extensive expertise and state-of-the-art technology to ensure the smooth refuelling of this new fleet.

We are very pleased with this important step towards environmentally friendly mobility in Duisburg – and are proud to be part of this development. The shared goal: to promote emission-free hydrogen buses in public transport and to improve Duisburg’s CO₂ balance.

The buses will now be equipped with DVG's own communication technology. The start of regular service is planned for the beginning of 2025. The buses will then be refuelled at the refuelling station in the depot currently under construction. Anyone assuming that the construction of the refuelling station has been delayed is wrong. The construction is on schedule, only the buses have arrived earlier than expected.
