The plant has been recently commissioned and is now fully operational. It has been designed, built and provided by the Finnish company Soletair Power, which manufactures solutions for\u00a0<b>carbon capture directly from the air<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\">The Direct Air Capture Unit at ZBT is operated as part of the\u00a0<b>PtG-MSE project<\/b>, which ZBT is carrying out together with RWTH Aachen University and YNCORIS GmbH &amp; Co. KG. The motivation in this project is to demonstrate a\u00a0<b>power-to-gas process chain<\/b>\u00a0at the ZBT site. This includes the construction and operation of various plant technologies such as photovoltaic, electrolyser, methanation and direct air capture.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\">DAC technology plays an important role in the project to provide the amount of CO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0needed to operate the\u00a0<b>methanation plant<\/b>. The objective is to achieve a\u00a0<b>closed carbon cycle<\/b>\u00a0at that point by using renewable energy to run the plants. In addition, ZBT takes a great interest in operating and testing one of few direct air capture units in Germany in order to proceed in this field of research.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\">The\u00a0<b>modular carbon dioxide capture unit<\/b>\u00a0at ZBT removes up to 21 kg\/day of CO2\u2082 from the air, and compresses it to above 10 bar at &gt;98% purity. The unit is housed in a 12 m \u00d7 2.4 m \u00d7 2.87 m container.
