Emission-free at sea: CAMPFIRE partner workshop at ZBT<\/h2>\n

Campfire partners met at the ammonia campfire at ZBT for the workshop “Emission-free Maritime Propulsion”.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In 2021, the partners in product category 3 (maritime propulsion) of the\u00a0Campfire Alliance<\/b>\u00a0could only meet online. Now the 50 or so participants came together again around the campfire and held a workshop on board the ZBT.<\/p>\n

Cast off!<\/h5>\n

Dr. Peter Beckhaus, captain of the ZBT, welcomed the participants to the\u00a0two-day workshop<\/b>\u00a0and introduced the institute. Then he handed over to the helmsmen Michael Steffen (ZBT), Jens Wartmann (ZBT) and Benjamin Friedhoff (DST).<\/p>\n

In addition to many informative presentations on licensing,\u00a0ammonia infrastructure and logistics<\/b>, ammonia safety and cracker engine propulsion systems, the World Caf\u00e9 on Day 2 provided a good opportunity to work together on\u00a0innovative approaches to solutions<\/b>\u00a0and new project ideas on these topics. The programme was complemented by guided tours of the ZBT and the DST and a social evening with all participants and a bottle of rum.<\/p>\n

This is Campfire<\/h5>\n

The Campfire Alliance was founded within the framework of the funding programme “WIR! – Wandel durch Innovation in der Region\u201c (Change through Innovation in the Region) programme of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The aim is to research and develop\u00a0new energy conversion and storage technologies<\/b>\u00a0for the future energy system based on green ammonia.<\/p>\n

At Campfire, ZBT is not only an important technology provider in\u00a0ammonia cracking<\/b>, but also responsible for leading the strategy and technology in Campfire Open Innovation Management. In organising the workshop, ZBT was actively supported by the DST – Development Centre for Ship Technology and Transport Systems in Duisburg.<\/p>\n

After the Campfire workshop at ZBT, we are now one step closer to the\u00a0energy transition at sea<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Top Cited Article 2025 – Award for ZBT-DOCTORAL student<\/h4>\n

Adib Caidi has received the “Top Cited Article Award 2025” from the scientific publisher Wiley. This is in recognition of a publication that is one of the most cited articles in the journal Particle & Particle Systems Characterization. <\/p>\n <\/div>\n
