Delegations from Ecuador and Oman visited the ZBT to find out about current developments in hydrogen technologies. The discussions focused primarily on electrolysis technologies and transportation issues relating to green hydrogen.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In the future, we will need huge quantities of\u00a0hydrogen<\/b>, even if not a single car were to run on fuel cell electricity. We will have to import a large part of it. It is therefore important to establish contacts with colleagues and interested parties from all over the world at an early stage in order to have a large network at our disposal in the future.<\/span><\/p>\n

The delegation from\u00a0Ecuador\u00a0<\/b>was interested in the entire chain from the\u00a0production of hydrogen<\/b>\u00a0to its own use and export. The South American country has a lot of hydropower that could be used to produce\u00a0green hydrogen<\/b>. However, the global demand for electrolysers is currently so high that a country like Ecuador would have to join the back of the queue. The idea of producing the technology itself in Ecuador was therefore discussed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n

Die Delegation aus Ecuador interessierte sich f\u00fcr die gesamte Kette von der Produktion von Wasserstoff \u00fcber die eigene Anwendung bis zum Export. Das s\u00fcdamerikanische Land verf\u00fcgt \u00fcber viel Wasserkraft, mit der sich gr\u00fcner Wasserstoff produzieren lie\u00dfe. Der Bedarf an Elektrolyseuren sei derzeit weltweit aber so hoch, dass sich ein Land wie Ecuador recht weit hinten in der Warteschlange einreihen m\u00fcsste. Diskutiert wurde deshalb \u00fcber die Idee, auch die Technologie selbst in Ecuador herzustellen.<\/p>\n

Lebhaft diskutiert wurde auch \u00fcber die Frage, woher die Investitionen in Schiffe f\u00fcr den Ammoniak-Transport und in die n\u00f6tige Infrastruktur kommen k\u00f6nne. Um in Transportkapazit\u00e4ten investieren zu k\u00f6nnen brauche es langfristige Vertr\u00e4ge mit Abnehmern, gab ein ecuadorianischer Logistikunternehmer zu bedenken, sonst lohne sich ein Termin bei der Bank nicht.<\/p>\n

There was also a lively discussion about where the investments in ships for\u00a0ammonia transportation<\/b>\u00a0and the necessary\u00a0infrastructure\u00a0could come from. One Ecuadorian logistics entrepreneur pointed out that long-term contracts with customers were needed in order to invest in transport capacities, otherwise it would not be worth making an appointment with the bank.<\/p>\n

The delegation from\u00a0Oman\u00a0<\/b>also discussed transportation issues: should green hydrogen be transported in liquid or gaseous form,\u00a0ammonia\u00a0or methane? There are many ways to transport hydrogen, said one delegation participant, and there is no need to rush into a decision yet, but it is necessary to make forecasts.<\/p>\n

Both delegations also showed great interest in the\u00a0OpenFuelCell project<\/a>, a functional\u00a0fuel cell<\/b>\u00a0that can be produced inexpensively and with simple means for teaching purposes by educational institutions and hobbyists all over the world.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n
