A new publication by <strong data-start=\"741\" data-end=\"791\">Lukas Willmeroth, Stefan Bever and Marin Frank<\/strong> experimentally investigates this process using a 244-litre Type IV storage tank at the ZBT\u2019s hydrogen test facility. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n            <\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"teaser-grid teaser-grid--white\"\n    dir=\"ltr\">\n    <div class=\"teaser-grid__content\" dir=\"ltr\">\n        <h2 class=\"teaser-grid__heading\">Significant temperature differences within the hydrogen storage tank<\/h2>\n        <div class=\"teaser-grid__text\"><p class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\" data-start=\"1054\" data-end=\"1587\">During discharge, the pressure and temperature of the hydrogen in the storage tank decrease. The ZBT\u2019s measurements reveal a pronounced <strong data-start=\"1179\" data-end=\"1213\">vertical temperature stratification<\/strong>: in all cases studied, the coldest region was in the lower part of the storage tank, whilst the gas in the upper region remained significantly warmer. In seven of the eight experiments, the local gas temperature reached the lower limit of -40 \u00b0C specified for the experiment before the storage tank could be emptied to a low residual pressure.  <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1589\" data-end=\"2107\">For the experiments, a commercial <strong data-start=\"1630\" data-end=\"1679\">70 MPa Type IV storage tank with a volume of 244 litres<\/strong> was instrumented with a total of 16 temperature sensors inside. Unlike many previous studies on smaller storage tanks, the experiments took place outdoors at the ZBT hydrogen test site. Of particular interest is the comparison of different discharge strategies: in the experiments examined, a rapid discharge at the start followed by a reduced rate made more hydrogen available than the reverse sequence. By contrast, no clear advantage was observed for alternating discharge with repeated interruptions.
