Ice cream to celebrate the inauguration \u2013 ZBT researchers commission combined test bench with cold chamber<\/h1>\n

It is not every day that such a large, complex test bench is commissioned, even at ZBT. So why not invite the staff to come and have a look? <\/h4>\n

Thorsten Notthoff (pictured front), research assistant and expert in fuel cell operation, explains to his colleagues: “With the new test bench, we can carry out temperature-dynamic tests<\/strong> between -35 and +90 \u00b0C and take a very close look at the effects on bipolar plates, MEAs and GDLs<\/strong>, for example. And not just on a small scale: we can install quite substantial short stacks here.\u2018<\/p>\n

J\u00f6rg Karstedt, Head of the Fuel Cells and Stacks Department, is delighted with the launch of the test bench: \u2019In the cold chamber, we can now investigate the cold start behaviour of fuel cell stacks<\/strong> or simulate the operating conditions for fuel cells in aviation, among other things.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n

Ricarda Scheich (pictured), research assistant and doctoral candidate, set up the test bench together with Thorsten Notthoff and looks relieved. \u2018We spent a lot of time working on the hardware, sealing and insulation<\/strong>. That was quite a challenge at times,\u2019 she says. \u2018We’re finally done with that. Now I’m going to start programming for the evaluation<\/strong> of the measurement results.\u2019<\/p>\n

To celebrate the occasion, the invited colleagues were treated to delicious ice cream, which was fitting for the occasion.<\/p>\n
