A presentation on ammonia cracking and the presentation of a power-to-gas demonstration platform offered exciting insights into the potential of renewable energies, sector coupling and hydrogen derivatives as well as the optimisation of future energy systems.<\/h4>\n

ZBT scientist Dr. Ulrich Gardemann presented the results of the project “Setup and Operation of a Power to Gas Demonstration Platform” on a poster at the DECHEMA FORUM in Friedrichshafen.<\/p>\n

Power-to-gas demonstration platform<\/h4>\n

The requirements for PtG technologies<\/b> in terms of flexibility and integration in an industry-related environment are high. What potential lies dormant here in the context of renewable energies, sector coupling and hydrogen derivatives? <\/p>\n

In the project, a power-to-gas demonstration platform<\/b> was set up and operated that combines established and innovative technologies such as photovoltaics, electrolysis, direct CO2 capture<\/sub> from the air and chemical methanation in a plant network. One specific R&D topic was the further development of ZBT’s own methanation technology<\/b>. The accompanying modeling and simulation should enable the transfer of different configurations of process chains and operating strategies to other locations, scales and conditions. <\/p>\n

The results support the evaluation and optimisation of future energy systems with a high proportion of renewable energies, but also highlight the need for further research and development. The methods developed enable the transfer to different use cases and scaling. <\/p>\n

Ammonia cracking<\/h4>\n

ZBT scientist Lena Engelmeier gave a highly acclaimed presentation at the forum on “Small Scale Ammonia Cracking for Stationary and Mobile Applications: Challenges and Insights into Recent Developments”.<\/p>\n
